Description:
Value is a guide for Australian investors interested in or practicing share investing using the value investing method as promoted by Benjamin Graham and Warren Buffett. Value investing is an investment approach which uses bottom-up fundamental analysis, and which has elements of buy and hold investing. In other words, it is a long term investing approach that focuses on analysing the underlying business.

Value is written in the down-to-earth, pull-no-punches style that the Intelligent Investor is known for. The book is based on the dispassionate, independent research and jargon-free writing that are the cornerstones of The Intelligent Investor’s success. Plenty of examples and figures will be used to illustrate various points.

About the Author: The Intelligent Investor, established in April 1998, is an independent fortnightly sharemarket publication that follows the principles of value investing. The publication takes its name from one of the world's classic investment books - The Intelligent Investor, the bestseller written by Benjamin Graham in 1949. Graham is often referred to as the father of security analysis and his philosophy - commonly referred to as 'value investing'- has stood the test of time. The fortnightly newsletter attempts to apply these value investing principles to Australian stocks. It also gives subscribers liberal doses of wisdom from successful practitioners of this philosophy. The most famous of these is Warren Buffett, one of the world's richest men.

The Intelligent Investor has approximately 10,000 active subscribers. The Intelligent Investor is based in Sydney and in addition to the fortnightly newsletter which is the cornerstone of their business, they also run several websites.

In a previous life, James Carlisle was a full-time investment analyst with the private client arm of Robert Fleming Group, where he was ultimately head of UK equities research. As an analyst, James was lucky to be able to make his early investment mistakes in an environment where no one noticed—another mistake on the London stockmarket is like another grain of sand on the beach. But he soon became frustrated with the short-term approach and he found his way to the UK offshoot of the Motley Fool, a website which preaches the merits of value-based, long-term investment. Energised by this breath of fresh air, he wrote and edited articles on all areas of finance and investment and even ended up co-authoring a book: The Motley Fool UK Investment Guide. James now works at the Intelligent Investor¬ as the editor and the occasional writer of various topics.
